Unwanted dogs dumped
2007-01-25
TWO small dogs who were reported walking aimlessly in the old Du Toit’s Kloof Pass last Thursday, could have been dumped there.
“We received a call from a member of the public regarding what could have been two Maltese, high up in the old pass.
“The motorist could not catch them as the one was very protective over... the other one that seemed injured,” Wellington SPCA chairman Nicolette Williams said.
She rushed to the site with committee member Lynne Olivier, but the dogs had disappeared.
“We put food and water down in the hope that they would return.” Paarl SPCA then managed to catch one of the dogs, who was so manged that it had to be euthanased.
“We will continue leaving water and food until we manage to catch the other dog,” Williams said.
She urged the public to contact the SPCA immediately should they spot a dog on Bain’s Kloof or Du Toit’s Kloof Pass.
“People have been known to dump their unwanted dogs on the mountains. Why do they do such a cruel thing? Rather bring them to us, the SPCA will take in any unwanted animals and try to find them a good home.”
The telephone numbers for the Wellington SPCA is 021-864-3726 and Paarl 021-863-2720.
