More helping hands needed
2007-05-10
THE rot of the Fidentia money scandel has now affected the 80 children of Helping Hands in Carterville Wellington.
“The house is still looking almost exactly the same as it did at the beginning of the year when it officially opened its doors. A lot of finishing touches are still needed,” says Mama Africa, Priscilla Simons.
She looks after children of the area providing a safe haven for children suffering from the effects of HIV/Aids, sexual abuse and foetal alcohol syndrome.
“The ceiling still needs to be fitted and the roof needs repair. When it rains, it leaks, and the children’s beds get wet.
“The front door was badly fitted, so much so that it needs four of us to close it properly for the night. Two of the children need to push it from the outside and two others inside need to pull it shut.
The two outside must then climb through the window to get in.
“We all usually have a good laugh afterwards, but I can assure you that there’s nothing funny about it,” says a concerned Simons.
The house has been constructed with the assistance of sponsors Wang
