A business breakfast was held on Monday last week as information and awareness to the business community.
Tony Frost, an Environmental Consultant talked about the importance of not wasting electricity and water.
Freddie Bruwer from the Swartland Municipality told the guests how their municipality, who is also the winner of the Cleanest Town 2006, keep their area clean and recycle and how they involve the whole community in this.
The main venues and areas of interest are participating schools and non-government organisations, with site visits, and exhibitions in the Paarl Mall and the Mbekweni Shoprite Centre.
School, community and Municipal projects and programmes run throughout the week.
All 55 primary schools in Drakenstein have been invited to participate, with 23 schools having confirmed their participation.
There are prizes for the school and individual or group for the first three places in each competition. Sponsorships will cover the prizes.
Clean-up activities during this week will be done by participating schools, NGO's and municipal staff and councillors, all adopting ‘a spot’ of their choice for this week.
To enhance public awareness, all the refuse picked up during this week will be stock-piled on the lawn in front of the Civic Centre.
