THE lives of the younstgers at the Langabuya Educare Centre changed on Monday when the first container to upgrade the crèche was delivered.
“For ten years I had to work in a shack. But now I’m not gona work in a shack again” an emotional principal and founder of this crèche, Thobeka Tyboch, said.
They have 50 registered children, but have 80 on the waiting list. “We wanted to improve the future of our children and show the community how important education is”.
Excited parents of the children shouted “Halleluja” and “Praise the Lord” when the containers arrived.
The containers are part of an outreach project of Cargo of Dreams, an initiative of churches in South Africa and America, who converted shipping containers into a classroom, toilets and kitchen.
The containers will be installed on the site, and the area between them will be covered with a roof, with an wall at the front. The conversion will be undertaken by members of the Paarlberg Dutch Reformed Church.
According to Marius van der Colff of Cargo of Dreams, this is the pilot project and the first of ten crèches that will be upgraded in Mbekweni. Van der Colff said that the project should be completed by the first week of September.
The containers were prepared by the Coast Hills Community Church in California.
