Call for taverns to close earlier

THE Drakenstein Youth Council has deplored the recent horrendous plague of murder in and around Mbekweni, perpetrated by youth on youth.
Says Jonathan Qebenya, the Drakenstein Youth council’s head of corporate affairs, “We demand that taverns be closed earlier and security be deployed over weekends.
“The recent atrocious rape and murder of the young girl by young men is indeed a shock to all of us and should never be tolerated. The recent stabbings of young men at a tavern is also disconcerting.”
The Drakenstein Youth Council is a civil society structure under the South African Youth Council.
Among other things they have established the Mbekweni Sports Club as a pilot to drive holistic sports development in especially the Cinderella sports codes, and to present sports as an alternative to the social ills.
