2007-09-13
THE Paarl Post walked away with the main accolades at the recent Sanlam Awards for the community press, held in Johannesburg.
Paarl Post was adjudged best newspaper (circulation over 15 000) and also won the award for best front page for paid newspapers.
The judges described Paarl Post as “a very solid newspaper”, one of the most organised, reader-friendly papers judged.
“It is extremely local in its approach and its story selection. It has a refined look about it, with elegant typography.
“It has great local photography and isn’t afraid to use it well.
"The inside pages really have a sense of where the paper lives and whom it is writing for.”
This is the third time in six years that Paarl Post has scooped the trophy.
Reporter Lise Beyers won first prize for her reporting in the field of local government events, and was among the top ten in the photography sections News, Sport and Best Portfolio.
Reporter Malané Bosman was also among the top ten in feature photography, and featured in three writing categories: human interest, business and sports.
