Make a difference
2007-10-25
FOR the first time this year, the Paarl Post has launched a Christmas fundraising project in aid of the Western Cape Community Chest, which supports about 30 local deserving non-profit organisations.
Community Chest already makes considerable annual contributions to these NGOs (about R500 000 per year) and local businesses are invited to give them a boost by contributing to the coffers via the Paarl Post Christmas Fund.
All contributions are paid into a separate bank account, to ensure that local contributions are utilised for local NGOs. No contributions will be paid to organisations outside the Paarl district.
Organisations supported by the Paarl Post Christmas Fund are the ACVV welfare branches in Paarl/Wellington/Franschhoek, Rusoord old age home, Oasis centre for senior citizens in Paarl, Paarl & District Child Welfare, Ikwezi programme for Aids orphans in Mbekweni, Franschhoek Child Welfare, Wellington Abbeyfield home for the aged, Badisa (the welfare arm of the Uniting Reformed Church in Wellington and Paarl), Andrew Murray children’s home, CareCraft Wellington (workshop for epilepsy sufferers), Franschhoek Legal Advice Centre, Drakenstein Association for the Physically Disabled, Mosaic court support service, Sanca (SA National Council against Alcoholism and Drugs), Rapcan (support of child rape victims), Pascap afterschool centres in Mbekweni (Mamzama and Sinethemba) as well as Rise & Shine aftercare.
A number of educare centres also depend on Community Chest for support: Kairos Educare (Simondium), Bovlei crèche, Wieliewalie, Drakenstein crèche, Little Stars en the educare centres Lingelihle, Little Flower, Masibulele, Masincedane, Nompumelelo, Sinethemba and Siyakhula in Mbekweni.
Only formal organisations who submit financial statements, are supported by Community Chest. The Chest is chaired by Brian O’Connell (rector of UWC).
All donations go directly to charity, while administration costs are financed from other sources, such as bequests from deceased estates.
The Paarl Post hereby appeals to its readers to support us with this project, which will ensure that your donation goes to local charities only.
